Medical Affairs
Our Medical Affairs team provides flexible and agile services to pharmaceutical companies.
Medaffcon provides skilled temporary workforce solutions for its client companies. An outsourced expert is a flexible solution to address a company’s short-term resourcing challenges.
According to Kristiina Pelli, Medaffcon’s Medical Affairs Lead the need for outsourced employees in pharmaceutical companies has been increasing. These experts may work either full-time or part-time in various capacities.
“An outsourced employee is a flexible solution for a company’s temporary resource challenges or longer absences, such as parental leaves or sick leaves,” explains Pelli.
Medaffcon manages all practicalities on behalf of the client, allowing the client to concentrate on their primary business activities. The outsourced professionals benefit from the support of Medaffcon’s expert team, which ranges from RWE specialists to Market Access professionals.
Pelli highlights that Medaffcon identifies the right expert for the job and in case the resource can’t be found in-house at Medaffcon, takes care of all recruitment-related processes and employer responsibilities.
“The client gets an employee for exactly as long as they need and for the specific task they require. The outsourced expert also has the full support of Medaffcon’s staff,” Pelli describes.
Outsourced roles include positions like Medical Science Liaison and Medical Advisor. Pelli herself also works for a client company.
The job description is diverse.
“These professionals are scientific experts. They for example meet with clinicians, organize advisory boards, review marketing materials and participate in pricing and reimbursement processes. They may also participate in the coordination of RWE-studies and related tasks,” says Pelli.
Companies are increasingly outsourcing tasks like marketing material reviews.
“Reviewing marketing materials is a clear-cut process that doesn’t involve relationship-building or networking with HCPs. Outsourcing this makes sense for companies,” says Pelli.
Some of Medaffcon’s temporary staff are employed on a project basis under fixed-term contracts. The work can also be part-time, making it suitable for students, for example. Weekly working hours can be as few as 10–15.
“This job is about continuous learning. For instance, in market analysis, experts must independently delve into a new therapeutic area or indication, interview clinicians and specialists. An excellent opportunity to learn something new with every assignment,” Pelli notes.
The Medical Affairs team also compiles literature reviews.
“These reviews are not the most exhaustive or systematic. For instance, a client may want to train their staff, and we gather information on the topic and identify new developments. This data can also be shared with clinical experts in advisory boards for example.”
At Medaffcon, different teams collaborate to ensure the best outcomes for clients. Knowledge flows smoothly between teams.
“Medical Affairs and RWE are kind of a one large team, so we often leverage RWE team resources,” Pelli explains.
Asthma and antibiotic use are linked to a higher risk of revision surgery in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP). This finding is based on a real-world evidence (RWE) study published in February.
Medaffcon’s Market Access team welcomed a new leader in mid-November, as Simo Jääskeläinen returned to his familiar workplace after a six-year hiatus.
A real-world evidence (RWE) study on the treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) has provided new insights into the therapeutic strategies for mCRPC. The analysis was based on data from 2,500 patients treated in Finland.
